Alicia Keys and Maren Morris were at Gray’s on Main in Franklin on Wednesday for the CMT Crossroads show.
The Gray’s taping was an invitation only event, and happened to be a big night for Maren Morris. Not only was she teaming up with the superstar of soul – Alicia Keys, Morris had just received five CMA nominations earlier in the day. Morris, a first time nominee, is a newcomer to Country Music at age 26. She received nominations for Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
During the Crossroads taping, Keys said “I want you to get obnoxiously loud for these CMA nominations,” Keys went on to say to Morris “I’m super proud of you.” To which Morris replied, ” This day is definitely going in my diary.”
Both Keys and Morris said they are musically influenced by genres that work well together, like Motown and soul, and they flawlessly performed some of each other’s hits. The night started with Morris’ “80s Mercedes.”
The two also performed Keys most popular songs of “Girl on Fire” and “No One” along with a cover of Bonnie Rait’s “Angel From Montgomery.”
Keys also performed in Nashville on Tuesday night at the ACM honors show. Keys said on her Facebook page that country and soul are “cousins.” Newly added to ‘The Voice’ show as a judge, along with country music star Blake Shelton, Keys seems to have fully embraced Nashville.
The CMT Crossroads show will air at 9 p.m. Central Dec. 2 on CMT.
