Michaela Mackie, daughter of Jennifer and John Mackie, is a junior at Summit High School and a member of the girl’s golf team.
Mackie began her golf career out of curiosity. She “wanted to try something new and challenging” so she chose golf.
Her biggest motivation to train and compete is the camaraderie she has formed with her teammates and the competitions between her and other golfers.
Her biggest role model is Sarah Smith, a recent graduate and golf teammate from Summit High. Mackie said “she was a positive and fantastic person as well as a great player.” She added, “She is such a support to me and I want to be that support for others.”
Summit High School Golf Coach, Paul Reding said, “Michaela Mackie is one of the few returning golfers from last year. She is strong and consistent. She has a winning way about her and helps lead the girls on the team. Her graceful swing serves her well. Michaela brings both academics and sports into balance and we are glad to have her on the team.”
Although she has no concrete plans for where she will attend college yet, she hopes she will be able to get a degree that will allow her to work in the medical field or with FEMA Disaster Management.
