BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Brentwood finds tourney success

Below are select hoops scores from around the county as tournaments and other games are underway. 

Brentwood edges Lavergne in first round of Father Ryan tourney 

At Father Ryan’s Willie Brown ’65 Basketball Tournament, the Brentwood Bruins got off to a hot start with a 60-50 win over Lavergne.

Jack Thurman led the team with 18 in the post-Christmas victory, with Ben Mills not too far behind with 15. John Windley pitched in with 13 on the afternoon.

The team will continue on to the semifinals against Mt. Juliet on Friday night. Tip-off’s at 7:00 p.m.

BGA drops close one to Maplewood 

The Battle Ground Academy Wildcats couldn’t get past Maplewood Thursday losing the first round match-up 54-49.

Garnett Hollis Jr. led the team with 13 in the loss, and Jorian Cantrell had 10.

FRA can’t get past Sonoraville 

The Franklin Road Academy Lady Panthers lost a 56-50 bout with Sonoraville Thursday.

Zharia Hutchinson had 22 points for the team in the defeat.

Note: Grace Christian Academy saw its double bill with Santa Fe cancelled due to travel concerns with the weather. No reschedule date has been announced.
