Garrison Mathews has played his last game for Lipscomb University but he has a few more contests on tap this month.

The senior guard was selected to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, a pre-draft showcase for 64 seniors from college basketball programs across the country. The event features eight teams and 12 games over four days (April 17-20) at Portsmouth, Virginia.

“It’s an honor to be able to represent Lipscomb and showcase my skills when I honestly didn’t think I would get an invite,” Mathews told the school’s athletics website. “Lipscomb has been so good to me and I wouldn’t be here without support from my coaches, my teammates and everyone else on campus.

“I will be forever thankful for helping me reach my potential.”

Mathews, a Franklin High School graduate, completed his college career with Lipscomb’s loss to Texas last Thursday in the NIT Championship. He is the Atlantic Sun Conference’s second all-time leading scorer and Lipscomb’s NCAA-era career leader in scoring (2,478), field goals attempted (1,693), 3-pointers made (360), 3-pointers attempted (963), free throws made (608) and free throws attempted (771).

Mathews is one of three NCAA Division I players to average at least 20 points per game each of the last three seasons.

MTSU sent two players, JaCorey Williams and Reggie Upshaw, to the Portsmouth Invitational in 2017. Williams has spent the past two seasons in the G League and Upshaw has played professionally in Spain.
