Guilford Eugene Smith Jr., of Brentwood, died on Sept. 5, 2014. He was 59.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Tennessee State Highway Patrol Officer. He was health conscious and exercised regularly and also was known as the “grill master” for his tasty BBQ ribs. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Guilford “Pete” Smith and Ruth Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Zon Smith, of Brentwood; daughters, Kathryn (Jason) Hatmaker of Franklin, and Kristen Smith of Nashville; son, Coleman Smith of Nashville; grandchildren, Jackson and Caroline Hatmaker of Franklin; sister, Stephanie (Johnny) Mathis of Brentwood; nieces, Meredith and Rachel Mathis of Brentwood.

A private family celebration was held in his honor in the countryside of Leiper’s Fork, a place he loved.
