Spring Hill’s own Midsouth Youth Theatre will be holding auditions for its latest show, Willy Wonka Jr., this Friday and Saturday at the MSYT Rehearsal Space, 3407 Kedron Road. Audition time slots vary from 3 – 6 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, with callbacks taking place Saturday afternoon. Parents can register online by clicking here.

Premiering in 2004, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is a musical adaptation of both the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, as well as the original 1964 British novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The musical follows the same beats as the iconic film and book, with candy aficionado Willy Wonka announcing his retirement through a golden ticket promotion, in which he seeks a successor.

If selected to perform, parents are asked for a $25 script and supply fee for rehearsal materials, however, Midsouth Youth Theatre is open to discussing with parents other means of offsetting costs. Ages considered will be from 4 – 18, with the play consisting of a litany of characters, all of which can be viewed online by clicking here.

Those auditioning will be asked to perform a monologue, sing a song, as well as read an excerpt from a provided script. If cast, participants will first attend a Production Fair, where all cast members will be given their script, have headshots taken and biographies written. Costumes will also be measured for, while a question and answer session will be held for parents.

The performances of Willy Wonka Jr. are scheduled for Nov. 8 and 9, giving the young thespians plenty of time for rehearsals. To register for auditions, click here.
