National Association of Home Builders endorses Blackburn in Senate race

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) this week endorsed Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) in the race for Tennessee’s open U.S. Senate seat.

“Rep. Blackburn has consistently demonstrated that she is a champion of housing and has pushed to advance policies that will put families in homes, create jobs and spur economic growth,” said NAHB Chairman Randy Noel, a custom home builder from LaPlace, La.

According to the endorsement, housing is important to local, state and national economies and accounts for about 15 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product. the group called this a critical election year to elect pro-housing, pro-business candidates to Congress in order to ensure that the housing and economic recovery continues to move forward.

“We are proud to endorse Rep. Blackburn for the U.S. Senate because she supports efforts to remove regulatory barriers that are harming housing affordability and believes that small businesses are the engine that drives our economy,” said Noel.

According to the NAHB, workers from 22 fields on average are needed to build a home. The endorsement said that constructing 100 single-family homes creates nearly 300 full-time jobs and $11.1 million in fees and taxes for all levels of government to help fund schools, roads, police and firefighters.
