Brentwood resident and Congressman Marsha Blackburn may be facing former Gov. Phil Bredesen in a bid for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Bob Corker.
Blackburn announced her candidacy for the Senate in early October. Bredesen, who served as Tennessee governor from 2003 through 2010, hasn’t made an announcement yet. But the Nashville Post, the Nashville Scene, and The Tennessean each cited unnamed sources confirming that he was raising money and intends to join the race.
Nashville lawyer James Mackler, a 45-year-old Iraq War veteran, also has announced his candidacy as a Democrat, meaning that if Bredesen joins the race he will have at least one primary opponent.
Bredesen is 74, and was the mayor of Metro Nashville from 1991 to 1999.
Blackburn, 65, has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2003.
