Letha Frances “Fran” Hargraves passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at the age 87.
She led a colorful life that included her husband of 50 years, William P. “Bill” Hargraves, Jr., and leaves a behind a legacy of 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas during the Great Depression, her father’s expert carpentry skills allowed her family to live in several Southern states during her youth. Her high school years in Tampa, Florida, made an impact on her soul that was long-lasting .
Fran eventually moved to Southern California where she worked in the early days at NASA, then ultimately married Bill, which allowed her to complete her undergraduate in History and English after giving birth to their three children.
Fran was never interested in publishing her writings, but she did have a passion for keeping journals throughout her life containing the details of her travels in twenty-six countries. Of all the places she had been, it was Florida that captured her heart. Her wish was to have her ashes placed in the waters of Tampa Bay, which she remembered so fondly all her life.
Fran will be greatly missed by her husband, Bill, her children, Dennis Bowden, Kelly Martin, and Chelsea Hargraves, Fran’s two sisters, brother and their families.
