Parent meetings on Bring Your Own Technology initiative are tonight and next week

STAFF REPORTS

The final Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) parent information meetings are happening this week and next, including a meeting tonight at Brentwood High School.

These BYOT meetings give parents the opportunity to learn more about the technology their children are using in the classroom and at home.

“Parents have been learning about filtering their child’s devices at home,” said Williamson County Schools Instructional Technology Director Kelly Wade. “It’s helping them make smart media choices with their family.”

The dates and locations for the remaining meetings are listed below:

  • December 5: Brentwood High
  • December 11: Fairview High
  • December 13: Franklin High

All meetings begin at 6 p.m.

To register for a meeting, fill out the Google registration form.

Williamson County Schools was among the first districts in the nation and the first in the state to begin the BYOT initiative. In the 2011-12 school year, the initiative was piloted at Page, Middle College (now Renaissance High), Summit and Brentwood high schools. The technology initiative was implemented district-wide in the 2012-13 school year.

Students choose to use devices to support their own learning in activities such as taking notes, conducting research, capturing assignments and events and accessing digital copies of textbook resources. Teachers might also incorporate technology during lessons to support learning or to accelerate learning opportunities.
