Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant on the square in downtown Columbia will team up with the Columbia-based Cord Martin Quartet for a monthly Jazz Brunch beginning Saturday, February 16, with live music from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Playing anything from pop to straight-ahead jazz to contemporary jazz, the Cord Martin Quartet normally consists of Martin on the saxophone, John Birdsong on the bass, Wendell Henry on the drums and Brain Harrison on the keys.
Cord Martin, who also serves as co-director of bands at Whitthorne Middle School, first started playing at Puckett’s four years ago for the Mule Town Festival.
“I’m grateful that Puckett’s has opened their doors to our music and the Jazz Brunch event,” Martin said. “As an educator, I’m so thankful that our community provides this family-friendly environment, giving me the opportunity to share my love of music to students, families, friends and visitors.”
Other upcoming jazz brunch dates are March 16, May 18, June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21, October 19, November 16 and December 21.
“Cord Martin is an incredibly talented musician who puts on a show like no one else,” A. Marshall Hospitality Marketing Director Sally Mink said. “He has a passion for inspiring others through music, and more specifically, inspiring the Columbia community. It’s no surprise that families return time and time again to enjoy his music.”
The brunch buffet will be served from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. There is no cover for the show, but tips are appreciated. Jazz Brunch reservations can be made by calling the restaurant at (931) 490-4550. For more information on the jazz brunch, please visit the event’s Facebook page.
