The Ravenwood Raptors got their first win of the 2018 playoffs without having to go out for a single down.
The team’s opponent, John Overton High School, forfeited the Friday Round 1 game, giving the Raptors the victory.
They’ll take on the winner of Cane Ridge/Franklin now.
If Cane Ridge wins, the Raptors would go on the road. If Franklin wins, they’d travel to Ravenwood.
Overton had to forfeit the game due to a fight that broke out between that team and Antioch High School last Friday at the close of that contest.
“As a result [of the fight], both school’s football programs are on restrictive probation, meaning they cannot participate in the post-season in football this year and next year. Antioch did not qualify for the football playoffs this year, but John Overton did,” TSSAA Asst. Executive Director Matthew Gillespie said in an emailed statement.
“They were scheduled to play at Ravenwood High School in the first round this Friday. As a result of the disciplinary action, John Overton High School’s football team has been removed from the playoff bracket, and Ravenwood will receive a ‘bye’ in this week’s contest.”
Overton also incurred financial penalties due to the incident.
Ravenwood went 8-2 on the season and earned the runner-up spot in Region 6-6A.
Raptor fans out there, our game tomorrow against Overton has been cancelled. We have advanced by means of forfeit. We will play the winner of Franklin and Cane Ridge!
