Below are updates from Friday’s sectionals round of the county’s spring playoffs.
Independence baseball will get chance at state
The Independence Eagles baseball team brushed off Wednesday’s region finals loss to keep their state hopes alive.
The team went on the road and got a 1-0 victory against Station Camp Friday to punch a ticket in the Class AAA state bracket.
The team will begin state play Tuesday in Murfreesboro, site TBD.
BGA soccer earns spot in D-II A state final four
A header from Charlie Jewell in the 110th minute from a nice pass by Robbie Wright gave Battle Ground Academy a 2-1 home victory against St. George’s Friday night.
Robby Lape got the first goal for the Wildcats.
The team is one of four in D-II A to advance to the last spots in the state tournament. They’ll be in Murfreesboro as well next week.
Brentwood Academy softball set for D-II AA final four
The Brentwood Academy softball team swept Briarcrest (18-0, 18-7) to take a position in the D-II AA state final four.
They’ll play Baylor Tuesday at Starplex #3 in Murfreesboro at 4;00 p.m.
Summit softball falls short of state
The Summit Softball team will have to wait a little longer for a chance at state.
The team lost 7-0 to Springfield on the road Friday night to conclude the season.
The Lady Spartans were 11-AAA district champions and runners-up in their region.
Brentwood boys tennis off to state
Brentwood’s boys tennis team is Murfreesboro-bound.
The team got a 4-0 win against Mt. Juliet Friday to earn one of the four final spots in the Large Class boys state tournament.
They’ll face Science Hill Tuesday at MTSU’s Adams Tennis Complex at 1:00 p.m.
