Shorter Chapel AME Church is seeking nominations from the community for the Shorter 150th Awards, in commemoration of the historic church’s 150th year.
The Shorter 150th awards will be presented in five categories this coming summer to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the betterment of Williamson County.
Nomination deadline is April 21. Awards will be presented, Aug. 10 at the Shorter Chapel Awards Gala.
Award Categories are:
Exemplary Ministry Through Music Award
For an individual, group, or church choir in Franklin, Tennessee, or the surrounding area that has demonstrated Christian leadership through the gift of music. Nominees must have contributed significantly to their community by sharing the gift of Christian music both inside and outside of formal church settings.
Outstanding Youth Award
Given to someone between the ages of 12 and 18 who has demonstrated a commitment to Christian leadership. Nominees must have a history of volunteerism, leadership, and community service in Williamson County.
Best Community Organization Award
Awarded to a Christ-centered non-profit organization that has a proven track record of providing assistance to those in need in Williamson County.
Economic Justice Award
For an organization or individual with a proven track record of working to create economic opportunity and empowerment for disenfranchised communities in Williamson County. This can include work in support of fair wages, job training, and financial fitness.
Shorter Chapel Lifetime Achievement Award
Given an individual who has made significant contributions to promoting the goals of Shorter Chapel and the A.M.E. Church over a period of 20-plus years. Nominees must have an established history of distinguished service to both the Christian community and the community at-large. Nominees must have demonstrated over an extended period of time volunteerism, spiritual growth and development, church leadership, outstanding Christian character, and a lifetime of achievements anchored, rooted, and grounded in faith and love and the principles of Shorter Chapel A.M.E. Church.
