This week’s Farmer’s Market in Spring Hill will see a little taste of Middle Easter cuisine Thursday by way of Bebe’s Kitchen, a food truck that specializes in Arabic food. A laundry list of local farmers will also be featured at the market per usual, offering homegrown potatoes, tomatoes, and just about any other fruit or vegetable imaginable.

Kicking off on May 2, the market will continue every Thursday until September 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Harvey Park, 4001 Miles Johnson Parkway. The market is also open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The market featured hand-picked produce from RC Farms, hand-made crafts and essential oils and Bebe’s Kitchen food truck. The market also touts a litany of local foods such as grass-fed and finished beef and pork, cage-free eggs, as well as 80 varieties of heirloom tomatoes courtesy of Middli’ Farms.

Meaning grandmother in Arabic, Bebe’s Kitchen was started two years ago by Spring Hill resident Huda Ali, who moved from Iraq to Tennessee in 2013. Ali said the food offered at Bebe’s Kitchen was inspired by her grandmother’s cooking, hence the name.

“I like the falafel because it’s special to me, it’s like comfort food,” Ali said as to what her favorite item on the menu was. “That’s what I grew up with, and I can’t find it here, so I feel like it’s special.”

When asked what her favorite thing about Spring Hill was, Ali was quick to say the community.

“It’s really special,” Ali said. “The community is really supportive, and they love [to] support small businesses and family businesses.”

Organized in part by the Spring Hill Parks and Recreation Department, the event sees 10 percent of all vendor sales donated to local charities. Those interested in becoming a vendor can click here to apply online.
