Antique lovers enjoyed a sneak peek of Rippavilla Plantation’s second annual Swanky Plank Vintage Marketplace on Main Street Thursday.

The event features wares from antique and vintage dealers from all over the South, many of whom live and sell in Spring Hill and Thompson’s Station. All of the event’s admission proceeds will go to support the preservation of the antebellum home and its educational programming.

“This is a great fundraiser for us,†plantation director Pam Perdue said. “Nonprofit organizations are always trying to find ways to raise money, and this is one of our largest. Vintage markets are very popular these days. I think antiques tie in well with the historic nature of our site.â€

Last year’s event drew 4,000 attendees and netted the plantation $25,000. Perdue expects 6,000 this weekend, and even larger benefit for the organization. Vendors pay between $125 and $200 for a tent space, depending on lawn location and electrical needs.

Corrine Tomlinson serves on the Rippavilla Board, and works year round to plan for the marketplace.

“I’m happy to help preserve the history of this beautiful plantation,†Tomlinson said. “We have 64 vendors coming in from as far away as Illinois. Others are coming from Arkansas, Alabama and of course all over Tennessee. We’ll have a lot of people selling who have their businesses here locally.â€

The Marketplace will be open Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is $7. Business will continue Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours of the mansion will be available both days for $5.
