Tennessee Mock Election, newest polls, show Blackburn and Lee in the lead

As new polls gave Rep. Marsha Blackburn the advantage over Phil Bredesen in the race for U.S. Senate, 56,470 Tennessee school students also chose the Republicans in the Senate and Governor races.

In a Facebook Live broadcast from Germantown Middle School in West Tennessee, Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett announced the results of the statewide Mock Election, representing students in all 95 counties.

Hargett said Blackburn had 31,507 votes in the Mock Election to Bredesen’s 23,819, or 57% to 43%. In the Tennessee Governor race, Williamson County businessman Bill Lee had 36,459 votes, compared to 20,012 for former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.

According to an NBC News/Marist poll completed last week, Blackburn had the support of 51 percent of likely voters, compared with 46 percent support for Bredesen. Among all registered voters, her advantage narrows to 49 percent to 46 percent.

The poll was conducted October 23-27, 2018. The margin of error for all adults is +/- 4.0 percentage points. The margin of error for 471 likely voters is +/- 5.7 percentage points.

Blackburn’s standing has improved since a previous NBC/Marist poll of Tennessee released in early September, when Bredesen led 48 percent to 46 percent among likely voters. That poll was conducted August 25-28.

The poll’s sample shows that 43 percent of likely voters identify as Republicans, while just 27 percent identify as Democrats.

Another poll, conducted Oct. 27-29 by Vox Populi Polling of 780 active voters, indicated that Blackburn leads Bredesen by seven points, 48 percent to 41 percent with 11 percent undecided. Blackburn’s lead is a six-point improvement since Vox Populi Polling’s last Tennessee poll, conducted in mid-September, that had the race tied at 42 percent.
