Williamson County Schools will be closed Friday, January 12 due to a wintry mix of ice and snow that is expected to blanket the area.
WCS made the announcement via Twitter, where it also mentioned that the School Aged Child Care program would still operate at select snow sites.
Maury County Public Schools announced on the district’s Facebook page late Thursday afternoon that all schools will be closed on January 12 due to freezing rain, snow and ice expected over night.
All sports and other MCPS activities on Friday will be canceled as well.
A Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service will be in effect for most of Friday.
Rain should start tonight in the area, which will start turning to sleet and freezing rain Friday morning.
“The big thing to remember is [Friday] morning the temperature at about 6 a.m. is going to be in the upper 30s but it’s just going to go down from there,” Meteorologist Faith Borden said.
The NWS is predicting that the sleet and freezing rain will be replaced by snow in the early afternoon, probably between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Borden said the area could expect an inch to an inch-and-a-half of snow in total.
The ice and snow could make for hazardous driving conditions throughout the day Friday and into the night. Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing all of Saturday and Sunday, so it may take a while for the ice and snow to melt.
Monday there is no school because of the Martin Luther King Day holiday.
